The Mets defeated the Phillies by a score of 7-4 in today’s game at Citizens Bank Park to take the series two games to one.

Offense:

After a solo home run by Chad Billingsley in the bottom of the third inning, the Mets responded quickly with an RBI single by Wilmer Flores to tie the game up at 1-1.

Curtis Granderson provided the key hit of the game with a two run blast to put the Mets up 3-2 in the 5th inning. He finished the day with two hits in five at-bats, and he now has his average up to .238 after a very slow start to the season.

Daniel Murphy went 3-for-5 and now has his average up to .234 after a dreadful start.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Johnny Monell also contributed with RBI doubles in the 6th and 8th innings, which extended the Mets lead.

Pitching:

While it was not his best outing of the season, Bartolo Colon picked up his MLB-leading 6th win of the season.

He pitched effectively for most of the game until he ran into trouble in the 7th inning. Colon allowed first three batters to reach base, but he was bailed out by Alex Torres. Torres kept the lead intact by retiring Freddy Galvis and Ryan Howard to end the inning.

In his last two appearances, Torres has walked three batters, hit one, while getting only two outs.

Overall, Colon allowed four runs and eight hits during six inning pitched. He also improved on his incredible strikeout to walk ratio by punching out six and walking none. He now has 40 strikeouts and has only issued one walk all year.

Jeurys Familia recorded the save with a scoreless 9th inning. He currently leads the league in saves with 13.

On Deck:

The Mets will travel to Chicago to take on Kris Bryant and the Cubs. Jacob deGrom will start on Monday against Cub’s ACE Jon Lester. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05, and the game will be televised on SNY.
