The Mets (27-21) completed the three game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies (19-30) this afternoon at Citi Field by a score of 7-0.

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard had the best start of his young career, as he went 7.2 strong innings, striking out six and walking none. He allowed six hits, but kept the Phillies off the board. Thor is the first pitcher in Mets history to have 5+ strikeouts in each of his first four career starts.

Sean Gilmartin took over in the eighth to relieve Syndergaard, and got the final two outs of the inning before handing the ball over to Erik Goeddel in the ninth, who sealed the win for the Mets.

Offense:

The Mets roughed up Phillies’ starter Sean O’Sullivan, tagging him for seven runs and eleven hits in 5.2 innings. O’Sullivan also surrendered four home runs, a Mets season high.

Lucas Duda went 3-for-4 including two home runs and a double. Duda now has five home runs in his last six games, and has brought his batting average up to .305 on the year.

The suddenly hot Michael Cuddyer, who is 9 for his last 21 (.429), launched his second home run of the series into the second deck in left field in the third inning. He is now hitting .262.

Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Duda, Murphy and Cuddyer went 4-for-12 combined today batting in the middle of the lineup, with five RBI’s and three home runs.

Perhaps the most impressive hitter today, however, was Noah Syndergaard, who went 3-for-3, including a solo home run in the fourth inning. His three hits ties a Mets record for hits from a pitcher in a game. Jacob deGrom also accomplished the feat ten days ago, when he had three hits against the Brewers.

Game ball:

Thor gets the game ball for obvious reasons. He is a force on the mound, and at the plate! 🙂
