The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday Night at Citi Field by the score of 7-1.

Zack Wheeler got the start and held the Marlins to one run on five hits in 6.2 innings, walking two and striking out six. It was his third consecutive solid start and second straight win at home. Wheeler lowered his ERA to 3.90 for the season and seems to be in a good groove right now. Wheeler also helped himself at the plate with an RBI double in the second.

Josh Edgin, Vic Black and Jeurys Familia combined for 2.1 scoreless innings out of the pen. It was surprising to see Familia come in with a six run lead, especially with concerns that he’s being over-used.

Lucas Duda and David Wright provided most of the offense for the Mets with each of them blasting a two-run homer. For Wright it was part of a big four-hit night that raised his average to .285 for the season.

Juan Lagares also had a great night at the plate, stroking three hits including a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis laced a triple in the game and scored a run. He also saved a run with a strong throw to nail Donovan Solano at the plate in the fourth.

Nice win for the Mets as they take the series opener from the Fish. Daisuke Matsuzaka (3-3, 3.82 ERA) gets the start on Saturday and opposes right-hander Tom Koehler (6-7, 3.98) for the Marlins in a 4:10 PM start.
