mets score eric young campbell

After an early five-run outburst, the Mets were able to hang on and defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score a 5-3 at PNC Park on Saturday.

The Mets greeted Pirates starter Gerrit Cole with RBI-hits from Eric Campbell and Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the first, also adding a third run on a wild pitch. In the second, Daniel Murphy lined a a two-run single to score Curtis Granderson and Eric Young Jr. who had three steals in the game.

Campbell had a huge game filling in for the injured David Wright, stroking three hits and even picking up his first career stolen base.

Jon Niese kept his quality start streak alive, allowing three runs in six innings while striking out five. It wasn’t easy for the Mets southpaw who struggled at times and was tagged for seven hits and three walks. But Niese battled and earned his fifth win of the season for his efforts.

Jeurys Familia dominated in the seventh and eighth with two 1-2-3 innings, while closer Jenrry Mejia pitched a perfect ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.

The Mets snapped their three-game losing streak and will try to split the four-game series on Sunday at 1:35 PM when right-hander Bartolo Colon will take on Edinson Volquez for the Bucs in the finale.

^^ I apologize if the recap seems too brief and rushed and not my norm. Having a bad day and not feeling very well at the moment. Thanks.
