The New York Mets (46-50) took on the San Diego Padres (41-55) tonight at PETCO Park, with Bartolo Colon facing off against Ian Kennedy. After going 8-2 in their last homestand going into the All-Star Break, the Mets were looking to keep the momentum going in the second half.

What you should know:

The Mets got off to an early start this evening, as they put up a three spot in the first inning with a Travis d’Arnaud RBI single to score Curtis Granderson, and a two-run single by Juan Lagares to score d’Arnaud and Lucas Duda.

The Mets would then add on to their lead in the top of the third, as Kirk Nieuwenhuis plated Lucas Duda with an RBI groundout.

The Padres would score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, ending Bartolo Colon’s day. Colon would strike out six and walk one, while allowing four runs on five hits over five innings, taking a no decision.

Ian Kennedy would also pitch five innings for San Diego, as he allowed four runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out four.

The Mets took the lead with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. After a Curtis Granderson walk, he would reach third base on two groundouts. Joaquin Benoit chose to intentionally walk Lucas Duda to pitch to Travis d’Arnaud. d’Arnaud would subsequently make him pay, as he drove in Granderson to give the Mets a 5-4 lead.

Jenrry Mejia came in to shut the door in the bottom of the ninth, earning his eleventh save of the season.

The Mets are now within four games of .500, and have won eight of their last nine games!
