mets win marlins

The Mets extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 victory against the Miami Marlins in Citi Field.

Offense:

Bartolo Colon helped his own cause again with a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning. It was Colon’s second consecutive start with an RBI.

The Mets pulled ahead of the Marlins 3-1 with a two runs in the 6th inning. Michael Cuddyer hit a weakly ball past the glove of Michael Morse to drive in Juan Lagares, and Eric Campbell added to the lead with a sacrifice fly.

Daniel Murphy, who has started the season in a slump, provided an insurance run in the 8th with a RBI double to right field.

In his major league debut, Daniel Muno collected his first big league hit with a pinch-hit single.

Pitching:

Despite allowing a home run early to Giancarlo Stanton, Colon settled in quickly and delivered another outstanding start.

Colon tossed seven strong innings while allowing just six hits and one run.

The veteran right hander has won his first three starts of the season, and his ERA now stands at an impressive 2.25.

Colon was aided by spectacular defense in center field by Juan Lagares. Lagares made three great catches, including an excellent diving grab in the 7th to bail Colon out of trouble with two runners on base.

Jeurys Familia was dominant again, and he picked up his 5th save of the season. Familia struck out two batters, and he did not allow a run.

On Deck:

Jacob deGrom will get the start tomorrow against Mat Latos at 7:10 PM. The game will be televised on WPIX.
