The Mets defeated the Braves by a score of 4-3 in today’s game at Turner Field in Atlanta.

Offense:

New York jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a two run home run by Michael Cuddyer. The home run was Cuddyer’s first of the season, and it was also his first extra base hit as a Met.

Bartolo Colon helped his own cause in the 4th inning with a weak RBI single over the head of the second baseman. It was Colon’s first RBI in ten year’s.

The Mets scratched out the go ahead run in the 8th inning against the Braves bullpen. Curtis Granderson, Anthony Recker and Ruben Tejada all walked to load the bases, and Daniel Murphy came through in the clutch with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Despite facing a tough left-handed starter in Alex Wood, Lucas Duda had a productive day at the plate with three hits in five at bats.

Pitching:

Colon pitched seven strong innings and surrendered three runs and six hits.

Other than allowing an RBI triple by Andrelton Simmons and a home run by Jonny Gomes, Colon was in complete control of the game and cruised through the Braves lineup.

Jerry Blevins pitched an inning in relief and allowed no runs and struck out two batters.

Jeurys Familia picked up the save after coming into the game with one out in the 9th. Familia retired both batters he faced, and he recorded one strikeout.

On deck:

The Mets will play their home opener tomorrow against the Phillies at 1:00 PM. The pitching matchup will be Aaron Harang vs. Jacob deGrom.
