The New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox this afternoon in the first Spring Training game of the season by a 3-2 score.

Pitching –

Seth Lugo got the start today and tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, two walks and didn’t allow a hit.

Right-handed pitching prospect Marcos Molina followed Lugo with two perfect innings of work without a strikeout. In his final inning of work he retired Andrew Benintendi, Hanley Ramirez and Jackie Bradley.

Rafael Montero pitched two scoreless innings to keep the no-hitter intact for the first six innings. He struck out two and walked one.

The Mets lost the no-hitter in the seventh inning when Josh Edgin allowed a double to Ramirez whom came around to score on a two-run blast by Brian Bogusevic.

Corey Taylor (personal breakout candidate) threw a 1-2-3 eight inning with a strikeout to hold onto a 3-2 lead.

Hansel Robles pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save.

Offense – 

The Mets got on the board in the first inning thanks to a walk by Juan Lagares, opposite field single off a lefty by Michael Conforto then a RBI ground out by Wilmer Flores.

Second baseman Gavin Cecchini hit a solo home run in the second inning to up the Mets lead to 2-0.

Conforto collected his second hit of the game with a solo blast to right field in the third inning.

Travis d’Arnaud was 2 for 2 on the day with two sharp singles and reports continue to say that he’s gotten rid of the bat wrap.

On Deck – 

The Mets have their home opener on Friday at newly named First Data Field against the Washington Nationals. Lefty Sean Gilmartin will get the start for the Mets against Gio Gonzalez for the Nats. Game starts at 1:05 on SNY.
