The Mets and Reds game was suspended after six innings on Saturday, and was picked up today at 1:30 PM. The Mets and Reds will then play their normally scheduled series finale thirty minutes after the resumed game ends.

Highly regarded prospect, and Long Island native Steven Matz is set to make his Mets debut in the second game. At Triple-A Las Vegas this season, Matz went 7-4 with a 2.19 ERA in 15 games (14 started).

He will square off against Josh Smith, who is making just his second major league start for the Reds. In his debut, he lasted only three innings, allowing four runs on three hits, while walking six against the Bucco’s.

In his minor league career, Smith has a 50-38 record, with a 3.56 ERA.

So it will be a duel of the young arms in what is a highly anticipated game that Mets fans have been looking forward to for some time!

Here’s what you missed yesterday….

Curtis Granderson hit his team leading 13th home run, 11 of which have been solo shots. He has now raised his slash line to .255/.354/.442 on the season. You have to figure if he keeps up this production, the Mets will have to move him down in the order to produce more runs. Granderson is not a lead off hitter, and his power is being wasted by him batting first in the order, but that’s just my opinion.

Matt Harvey started for the Mets, and even though he didn’t dominate, he still managed to pitch six innings, allowing just one run on five hits, while walking two and striking out three.

The only blemish against him came after Curtis Granderson tried to make a sliding catch on a shallow hit ball off the bat of Tucker Barnhart, but the ball popped out of his glove and it was scored a hit. Brandon Phillips then doubled him in two batters later to tie the game.

The Mets had a few different opportunities to score off of Reds’ starter Michael Lorenzen, including having the bases loaded at one point, and having runners in scoring position in three separate innings, but failed to convert.

The game was suspended after the sixth inning, and after a 50+ minute rain delay, the game was called.

Today….

Carlos Torres took the mound when the game was resumed, after Matt Harvey was pinched hit for in the sixth inning. He put runners in scoring position, and was replaced by Alex Torres, who walked Joey Votto, the only batter to face him.

With the bases loaded, Hansel Robles came in and retired Todd Frazier to leave the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Mets were all over Reds’ pitcher Ryan Mattheus. Ruben Tejada flew one out to left field, which was destined to be a double at least, but was robbed on a tremendous catch by Skip Schumaker.

The next batter, Lucas Duda, also drove one deep to left field. The ball caromed off the wall and Schumaker again robbed a Mets hitter of a double as he threw Duda out at second.

In the ninth inning, the Mets had a golden opportunity to score as Curtis Granderson walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Ruben Tejada also walked, putting runners at first and second with one out for Lucas Duda.  Duda grounded out, but did advance the runners to second and third on the play.

Michael Cuddyer was unable to get the winning run across, as he popped out to end the inning.

In the eleventh inning, the Mets again were in position to score as Curtis Granderson smoked a ball to first base which snuck under the glove of Joey Votto.

Ruben Tejada then walked, but Lucas Duda and Michael Cuddyer struck out to leave the runners stranded.

The Mets burned through their bullpen, but Carlos Torres, Alex Torres, Hansel Robles, Jeurys Familia, Logan Verrett and Bobby Parnell combined to pitch seven scoreless innings.

In the thirteenth inning, Dilson Herrera walked to lead off the frame, and went first to third on a Curtis Granderson single.

With the infield in with runners at the corners and no outs, Ruben Tejada hit a ball to shortstop which Eugenio Suarez botched, loading the bases.

Lucas Duda finally won it for the Amazin’s, as he hit a ball to first which Joey Votto dropped, allowing Dilson Herrera to score.

On deck:

Tune in to SNY as the Mets will start the second game shortly! #LetsGoMatz
