The New York Mets took on the Milwaukee Brewers this afternoon at Miller Park. The Mets were looking for the series split against Milwaukee, and to finish .500 on their ten game road trip. Jacob deGrom took the mound for the Amazin’s, as Jimmy Nelson got the start for the Brewers.
What you should know:
Jacob deGrom was outstanding for the Mets yet again, as he tossed 6 and 1/3rd’s innings, allowing no runs on four hits, while striking out four and walking two.
Jimmy Nelson was also impressive for Milwaukee, as he went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out six.
The two rookie pitchers would duel it out, as the game would remain scoreless until the sixth inning as the smoking hot Lucas Duda launched a two-run home run, his eighteenth of the season.
Vic Black and Jeurys Familia would combine to pitch 1 and 2/3rd’s innings of scoreless ball leading to Jenrry Mejia, who shut the door in the ninth inning, earning his fifteenth save of the year.
Additional notes:
Jenrry Mejia has now recorded a save in seven consecutive appearances, and is pitching to an 0.90 ERA in his last ten games.
Jacob deGrom has allowed one earned run or less in his last four starts (2 ER in last 27.1 innings) and is now 5-5 on the season.
Chris Young doubled in four straight plate appearances, including two today. The only other Met to ever double in four straight plate appearances is Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who did it earlier this season.
The Mets went .500 on the road trip, going 5-5.
Lucas Duda has hit four out of the five Mets home runs since the All-Star break, and now has eighteen on the season, a career high.
