The Mets (33-41) dropped the second game of their four game set with the Marlins (37-36) on Friday night by a score of 3-2.

Daisuke Matsuzaka got the start for the Mets and pitched very well, as he has all season. After Rafael Furcal scored in the first inning following his leadoff triple, the 33-year old Matsuzaka settled down to pitch a solid game. In all, Dice-K went 5.1 innings, and allowed just one run while striking out four and walking one batter. However it wasn’t enough, and he was charged with his first loss of 2014.

The Mets did attempt to rally back in the ninth, but Kirk Nieuwenhuis was cut down by Marcel Ozuna trying to score from third base on Chris Young‘s fly ball to left field. The play was reviewed, and confirmed to be an out– which ended the game.

David Wright stayed hot, going 2-4 with an RBI single to get the Mets on the board. He also doubled earlier in the game, and has now reached base in five straight games.

Daniel Murphy had two hits as well, which is starting to feel like a nightly occurrence. He’s now hitting an even .300 on the season.

Vic Black surrendered his two runs in his inning of work. Only one run was earned as the other scored when Anthony Recker sailed a throw to third base allowing Jake Marisnick, who was attempting to steal third, to score.

The Mets and Marlins will meet again Saturday in a late afternoon game, with first pitch slated for 4:10 PM ET. Jacob deGrom (0-4, 4.39 ERA) will face off against Tom Koehler (5-5, 3.84).
