The New York Mets (16-8) defeated the Atlanta Braves (6-19) by a score of 4-1 in the first game of the three game set. With the win, Bartolo Colon passed Pedro Martinez for the second place in wins by a Dominican pitcher with the 220th victory of his career.

Pitching:

The man. The myth. The legend. Big sexy himself, Bartolo Colon (2-1, 2.56 ERA) pitched eight masterful scoreless innings for New York. He allowed seven hits, while walking none. Big Sexy struck out seven batters on the night, in a vintage performance.

Jeurys Familia took the ninth for the Mets in a non-save situation. La Familia allowed two hits while giving up one run before retiring former Met, Kelly Johnson, to end the ballgame. Jeurys struck out one in his appearance.

Batting:

The offense came out with a bang in this game, putting up a four spot in the bottom of the first inning. It was homers galore for the Metropolitans as David Wright got it going with a solo shot off Braves rookie, Mike Foltynewicz, to start the early scoring barrage. Michael Conforto followed suit with a single, and was driven in on a Yoenis Cespedes bomb, his eighth of the season. What fun would it have been without another back to back attack? Lucas Duda would not be outdone by Cespedes, smacking his fifth of the year out of the park. That “Duda smash” staked the Mets to a 4-0 lead.

The scoring in the first would be all that they would need and all that they would end up producing on the night.
