The New York Mets (28-37) fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks (38-30) by a score of 6-3 at Chase Field. The loss marks the Mets’ third in a row and gives the team a 1-10 record thus far in June.

Pitching

Jason Vargas got the nod for the Mets for the eighth time this season. He didn’t struggle as much as he did early on in the season, but he also didn’t do as well as some of his more recent starts.

Vargas went five innings and gave up five hits, two walks and three runs while striking out five batters. In doing so, he managed to lower his ERA from 7.71 to 7.39.

Hansel Robles came into a 3-2 game in the sixth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning. He continued on in the seventh and walked the first batter before recording the first two outs.

Jerry Blevins replaced Robles in the seventh to get the third out and ended up loading the bases instead.

Paul Sewald followed Blevins in trying to get the final out of the seventh and likewise faltered. He walked the bases loaded to give the Diamondbacks a 4-2 lead before getting out of the inning.

Jacob Rhame pitched the eighth inning and helped solidify the Diamondbacks’ victory by allowing two solo home runs to make it a 6-3 ballgame.

Offense

The Mets faced starter Matt Koch who came into the game with a 4.20 ERA and 1.217 WHIP after giving up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits (three home runs) and one walk in five innings against the Colorado Rockies on June 9.

Brandon Nimmo opened up the scoring early by hitting a two-out solo home run in the first inning.

The Mets were held to a walk and two hits until the sixth inning when Michael Conforto launched a solo shot of his own to put the Mets within one run of the Diamondbacks.

The Mets’ next hit came in the eighth as Amed Rosario led off the inning with the team’s third solo homer of the game.

Overall the Mets only had four hits and two walks on the night while on the flipside they struck out nine times and left six men on base.
