The Mets (36-34) were defeated by the Atlanta Braves (34-35) by a score of 6-4 tonight at Turner Field.
The Mets loaded the bases in the first inning to put immediate pressure on Braves starter Williams Perez. Curtis Granderson and Ruben Tejada singled, and Michael Cuddyer was hit by a pitch.
Travis d’Arnaud then drove in a pair with a single to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead.
The Braves cut the lead in half in the second inning. A.J. Pierzynski tripled, and was driven in by an Andrelton Simmons single.
Atlanta then tied the game in the third inning. Jace Peterson walked to lead-off the inning, and proceeded to steal second base. With no one covering the bag, d’Arnaud’s throw sailed into center field, causing Peterson to advance to third.
Peterson then scored after Cameron Maybin grounded out.
In the fourth inning, A.J. Pierzynski and Andrelton Simmons singled, and each moved up a base on a Juan Lagares error.
Eury Perez drove in the Braves third run on a groundout, and Jace Peterson tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly.
Noah Syndergaard was removed from the game after the fourth inning. His final line has him going four innings, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking two.
Curtis Granderson hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, to get the Mets back within a run.
Jack Leathersich came on to relieve Noah Syndergaard, and struck out the side. His K/9 in the majors is now 10.8.
Travis d’Arnaud then tied the game in the sixth inning, but was removed in the latter portion of the frame after a collision at the plate with A.J. Pierzynski who scored on the play. Thankfully, he is listed as day-to-day with a hyper extended elbow, and not something more serious.
With Logan Verrett on the mound, Cameron Maybin drove in the sixth Atlanta run with a fielder’s choice.
The Mets would not come back from this deficit, as Atlanta gets the series victory.
