The Mets (85-67) were defeated by the Atlanta Braves (62-91) by a score of 6-3 tonight at Citi Field, and in the process dropped the series.
Pitching:
Bartolo Colon got the nod for the Mets, and started off the game very well, keeping his pitch count down and not letting up a hit until the fifth inning.
Colon would pitch into the seventh inning, but after loading the bases, he was removed in favor of Addison Reed.
Reed let up a single to Michael Bourn to plate Atlanta’s first run, but the real damage came when Freddie Freeman gave Atlanta a 3-2 lead at the time by hitting a two run pinch-hit double to right field.
Reed was able to stop the bleeding, as he induced a double play to end the inning. However, all three runs were attributed to Colon.
In the ninth inning after the Mets were able to knot up the game at three, Jeurys Familia surrendered a three-run homer to none other than Freddie Freeman.
This would prove to be the final blow, as the Mets could not recover and fight their way back in the bottom of the frame.

Offense:
The Mets got on the scoreboard first, as Daniel Murphy hit a solo shot in the first inning.
Then in the second, the Mets went up 2-0 after Lucas Duda doubled to lead off the inning, and came around to score on a single from Ruben Tejada.
This lead would stand until the sixth when the Braves went up 3-2. However in the seventh, the Mets tied the game at three on a single from David Wright to score Eric Young.
Unfortunately, with the Braves taking the lead in the ninth, the Mets were unable to come back and they drop 2 out of 3 to the Braves.
On deck:
The Mets travel to Cincinnati to take on the Reds tomorrow night, with Steven Matz (4-0, 1.80 ERA) taking on Josh Smith (0-2, 7.71 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 PM.
