Former Mets’ manager and SNY analyst Bobby Valentine joined executive editor Rob Piersall and social media coordinator Jack Ramsey earlier this month to talk about his days as a player, skipper of the Mets, the black jerseys, how to attack the shift and everything in between in this one-on-one with MetsMerized.

Valentine, 70, originally from Stamford, Connecticut, played 10 years in the big leagues primarily as a middle infielder, but spent some time in the outfield as well.

Valentine was part of the Mets as a player in 1977-78, and later managed the team from 1996-02. During his time with New York, he registered a 536-467 record and brought the team to the playoffs in 1999 and the World Series in 2000.

The baseball lifer also managed the Texas Rangers in the ’90s, as well as overseas with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Pacific League for two separate tours of duty. Valentine most recently managed the Boston Red Sox in 2012 and has also appeared on SNY as an analyst.
