MLB Trade Rumors released their annual predictions for where the Top 50 free agents for the 2017-2018 offseason will sign and the only player in the group they think will go to the Mets is third baseman Todd Frazier.

They have Frazier ranked as the No. 17 free agent which would earn him a three-year, $33 million deal from the Mets. Frazier has been mentioned as a potential fit for the Mets by multiple outlets given their need for a third baseman and their unlikelihood of going after Mike Moustakas.

Frazier, 32 next season, has hit .222/.365/.423 with 11 homers and 32 RBI in 66 games with the Yankees after coming over mid-season from the White Sox.

Frazier has value because he is a good defender at third base. His 10 DRS in 2017 was a career high, but not that far off from the 6 DRS he averaged from 2013-15. He’s also played some first base recently.

What’s surprising is that MLBTR doesn’t have a single pitcher on their list that includes Lance Lynn (Rangers, four years, $56M), Alex Cobb (Twins, four years, $48M), Jake McGee (Cubs, three years, $18M), Steve Cishek (Rangers, two years, $14M) and Jason Vargas (Orioles, one year, $10M) predicted to go to the Mets.

It would be a mistake if Mets GM Sandy Alderson ignored the pitching market as MLBTR suggests.
