The Mets enter what fans hope will be an exciting offseason with 13 arbitration eligible players, the second most in the majors. MLB Trade Rumors released their projections for all arbitration eligible players on Thursday,
Of the 13, left-hander Steven Matz, right-hander Robert Gsellman, and outfielder Guillermo Heredia look like the most vulnerable to being non-tendered. Matz is coming off his worst season as a big leaguer (9.68 ERA), Gsellman had his rough season (9.64) end early with a rib fracture, and Heredia is a fringe big leaguer.
Given that Major League Baseball only played 60 games, MLB Trade Rumors used three methods in an effort to project the 2021 salaries of arbitration eligible players.
Method one applies model directly with actual statistics from this 60-game season, method two extrapolates all counting stats to would-be 162-game totals, and method three For non-first-time eligibles, finds the raise they’d get in a 162 game season, then gives them 37% of that raise.
Here’s what MLBTR had for Mets players:
- OF Guillermo Heredia – $1.4MM / $1.5MM /$1.3MM
- OF Michael Conforto – $9.0MM /$13.6MM / $10.1MM
- OF/IF J.D. Davis – $1.7MM / $2.9MM / $1.7MM
- RHP Edwin Diaz – $5.1MM / $6.5MM / $5.6MM
- RHP Robert Gsellman – $1.2MM / $1.4MM / $1.3MM
- RHP Seth Lugo – $2.2MM / $3.1MM / $2.4MM
- LHP Steven Matz – $5.0MM / $5.3MM / $5.1MM
- OF Brandon Nimmo – $3.0MM / $5.2MM / $3.3MM
- SS Amed Rosario – $1.8MM / $2.6MM / $1.8MM
- 1B/OF Dominic Smith – $1.9MM / $3.6MM / $1.9MM
- RHP Noah Syndergaard – $9.7MM / $9.7MM / $9.7MM
- RHP Miguel Castro – $1.3MM / $1.8MM / $1.3MM
- LHP Chasen Shreve – $900K / $1.1MM / $800K
Using the far left column based on the 60-game stats, the total for Mets arbitration eligible players salary would be $45.2 million for the 2021 season.
