The trade deadline is Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET with lots of rumors still swirling though there’s been very little action outside of the Mets.
Diaz More Likely to Get Traded Than Syndergaard?
Jeff Passan of ESPN is now hearing skepticism that Mets starter Noah Syndergaard could be traded before the deadline as teams are balking at the high asking price.
Passan also notes that the asking price for Mets closer Edwin Diaz is high though the Mets have indicated a willingness to trade him less than a year after acquiring him from the Mariners.
Executives say it is realistic that the Mets recoup a good portion of prospect value they lost in the deal that sent Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn to the Mariners.
Buster Olney of ESPN reports that other teams are aware of the tension in the relationship between Syndergaard and Mets leadership.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic notes that Rays, Dodgers, Braves, and Padres are showing interesting in Diaz. While the A’s, Rays, and Braves as teams showing interest in Zack Wheeler though sources tell Rosenthal that the Astros are working hard to acquire the right-hander.
Red Sox, Rays Looking for Bullpen Help
The Red Sox and Rays are not currently in playoff spots despite both being at least 10 games over .500, as they look to build towards a Wild Card spot bullpen help is atop the list.
According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Rays have done their work on Mets closer Edwin Diaz and Olney also noted that the Red Sox could be a fit for the former Mariners reliever as well.
Marc Topkin of Tampa Bay Times reports that while the Rays are unlikely to trade for a big-time reliever though if they did, it would likely be a push for Diaz.

Ray Drawing Plenty of Interest
The Diamondbacks lost again on Tuesday night increasing the chances that they could deal assets before the deadline. Left-handed starter Robbie Ray is drawing lots of interest and rival execs expect him to be traded according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Among the teams to have interest in acquiring Ray are the Brewers, Astros, and Yankees per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Phillies Looking At Alex Colome
As the Phillies look for bullpen help they have shown interest in White Sox right-handed reliever Alex Colome according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com. Phillies GM Matt Klentak admitted that news of a possible David Robertson return has become less and less encouraging.
Of course the Phillies added pitching on Monday when they traded for Jason Vargas from the Mets.
Brewers Nab Much-Needed Starter
The Brewers traded for right-handed starter Jordan Lyles from the Pirates on Monday. The Brewers sent right-handed pitching prospect Cody Ponce to the Pirates.
Lyles is actually returning to Milwaukee where he had a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings to close out the 2018 season. The 28-year-old has a 5.36 ERA, 4.81 FIP, and 1.47 WHIP in 82.1 innings over 17 starts this year.
Brewers could continue to look for starting pitching help with Brandon Woodruff, Jhoulys Chacin, and Jimmy Nelson all on the injured list.
