Dodgers Eyeing Betts

Bob Nightengale of USA Today heard that the Los Angeles Dodgers have talked to the Boston Red Sox about a deal that would land them Mookie Betts.

Nightengale notes that the Dodgers have floated Corey Seager in trade talks, but are reluctant to part with Gavin Lux. He went on to say that the Red Sox love the idea of potentially acquiring Will Smith if he’s made available in trade talks.

Cardinals Add Kim

The St. Louis Cardinals signed Kwang-Hyun Kim on Tuesday to a two-year, $8 million contract in which he is capable of earning $1.5 million in incentives during each season.

Kim, 31, is coming over from the KBO in which he had a 2.51 ERA and 1.240 WHIP in 2019. The left-hander will join a rotation that will include Jack Flaherty, Adam Wainwright, Dakota Hudson, and Miles Mikolas.

Blue Jays To Sign Yamaguchi

Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported that the Toronto Blue Jays will sign Japanese right-hander Shun Yamaguchi to a two-year, $6 million contract.

Yamaguchi, 32, is likely to come out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, Rosenthal adds. However, the team has not ruled out using him as the team’s fifth starter in 2020.

In 2019, he started 28 games in which he registered a 2.78 ERA and 1.171 WHIP with 9.6 K/9 as compared to 3.2 BB/9.

Barraclough Joins the Padres

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reported that Kyle Barraclough has agreed to a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres that includes an invite to Spring Training.

Barraclough, 29, had a 5.61 ERA, 6.36 FIP, and 1.752 WHIP in 2019 which he split between the Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants.

From 2015-2018, Barraclough was a very effective reliever, though, as he had a 3.21 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and 1.299 WHIP with 11.5 K/9 as compared to 5.5 BB/9.
