According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, right-handed starter Garrett Richards and the Boston Red Sox are “in agreement on a one-year, $10 million deal, pending physical”, per sources.

After undergoing Tommy John surgery in July 2018, ending his eight-year tenure with the Angels (3.54 ERA, 3.62 FIP, 645 strikeouts, 268 walks, 744.2 innings), Richards, 32, spent the past two seasons with the San Diego Padres.

Over 17 total appearances since the start of 2019 (13 starts; 60 innings), Richards has pitched to a 4.65 ERA (4.49 FIP) with 57 strikeouts, 23 walks, and 1.33 WHIP.

Richards joins fellow righties Nathan Eovaldi and Nick Pivetta, as well as southpaws Eduardo Rodriguez and Martin Perez, in Boston’s expected starting five.
