Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Pete Rose has petitioned MLB and the Hall of Fame for reinstatement after seeing the lack of punishment given to Astros’ players for the sign-stealing scandal.

Rose believes that the lifetime ban for gambling on games as a player and manager is “disproportionate” when considering that no Astros’ players were given punishments from MLB for their involvement in the Astros’ scandal. Heyman adds that Rose “does not dispute the severity of his violations.”

The 78-year-old has the most hits in MLB history (4,256) and was a 17-time All-Star during his career which, based on his performance alone, would have given him a plaque in Cooperstown.
