As first reported by JJ Cooper of Baseball America, it is believed that, “When MLB and MiLB negotiators convene on a teleconference on Wednesday, multiple sources with knowledge of the negotiations say that MiLB will indicate that they agree to 120 affiliated teams in a new PBA.”

The part of the minor leagues which will take worst hit, will be the over 40 short season and rookie ball teams slated to get the axe when a deal is reached

What will this mean for the hundreds of future un-drafted prospects with dreams of playing professional baseball? “The two sides are working on a potential deal which would ensure that at least the majority of those 42 teams would have baseball with ties to MLB in a system that has long-term viability.”

Cooper went on to say that,”The MiLB and MLB are expected to discuss the parameters of a system where the two sides could work together to ensure that most of the cities that currently have affiliated baseball will have ties to MLB clubs — even if those cities’ teams will not be fielding draftees and signees of the MLB club.”

Wednesday is gearing up to be a sad, sad day in professional baseball.

Something that seemed so outlandish only six months ago, now thanks to the COVID pandemic, has made Commissioner Manfred’s flawed dream a reality. The future of baseball is in your hands sir, try not to screw it up.
