Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Royals are close to signing right-handed pitcher Matt Harvey to a minor league deal.

Harvey, 31, had been a hot topic with Mets fans over the last 24 hours following the news of Marcus Stroman going on the injured list. The former Met struggled mightily in 2019, posting a 7.09 ERA in 12 starts for the Angels before getting released.

The former All-Star would then sign a minor league deal with the Oakland Athletics in August. He pitched for their Triple-A affiliate in the Pacific Coast League, making three starts and two relief appearances. He had a 3.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 11.1 K/9 over 17 innings.

Harvey finished with a 3.66 ERA over parts of six seasons with the Mets and pitched twice against the Royals in the 2015 World Series.
