David Kaplan of Sports Talk Chicago reports that David Ross is expected to be named the new manager of the Chicago Cubs before the end of the week as a contract with the team is almost agreed to.

Ross, 42, played 15 seasons in the majors, spending time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, and Cubs.

After helping break the 108-year curse for the Cubs in 2016, Ross retired from baseball and started serving as a special assistant to baseball operations for the team in 2017.

For the Mets, this means that Joe Girardi now has one less suitor, with the Cubs reportedly having interviewed him for almost eight hours. That leaves the Mets and Philadelphia Phillies as the two remaining teams known to have interviewed him.
