The Oakland Athletics announced on Thursday afternoon that they’ve signed outfielder/designated hitter Khris Davis to a two-year, $33.5 million extension.

Davis will make $16.75 million in 2019 and in 2020. He was due to become a free agent following this season.

The 31-year-old is hitting .260/.305/.662 this year with a major league best 10 home runs in 20 games for Oakland. He has reached the 40-homer plateau in his previous three seasons with the A’s and led the league with 48 in 2018.

His poor defense (-22 DRS for career) has turned him into almost exclusively a designated hitter with only 11 games in the field last year. The A’s acquired Davis from the Brewers in return for prospects Bubba Derby and Jacob Nottingham back in February of 2016.

Remarkably, Davis has hit exactly .247 for the last four seasons.
