MLB Network ranked Wilson Ramos as the No. 6 catcher right now in their annual “Top 10 Right Now: Catchers” program on Saturday.

In 2019, Ramos hit .288/.351/.416/.768 with 52 runs scored, 14 home runs and 73 RBIs in 473 at-bats and 141 games played.

Overall Ramos had a 2.0 bWAR and 1.4 fWAR which was lower than one may expect from his offensive numbers, due to his struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Ramos finished the 2019 campaign with -13 defensive runs saved and a -7.6 catcher framing rating.

Going into the 2019 season, Ramos was ranked the eighth-best catcher, edging out Mike Zunino of the Tampa Bay Rays and Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals.

The entire top 10 list of catchers heading into 2020 are as follows:

  1. Yasmani Grandal, Chicago White Sox
  2. J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies
  3. Willson Contreras, Chicago Cubs
  4. Mitch Garver, Minnesota Twins
  5. Gary Sanchez, New York Yankees
  6. Wilson Ramos, New York Mets
  7. Robinson Chirinos, Texas Rangers
  8. Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants
  9. Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals
  10. Omar Narvaez, Milwaukee Brewers

Ramos joins Pete Alonso (ranked the third-best first baseman), Michael Conforto (ranked the ninth-best right fielder) and Brandon Nimmo (ranked the ninth-best center fielder) as fellow Mets who have been ranked among the top 10 at their respective positions by MLB Network.

MLB Network describes their methods for creating these lists by using “rankings based on player performance over the last two seasons, a number of offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced data and traditional numbers and analysis by the MLB Network research team.”

On Feb. 1, MLB Network will reveal their rankings for the top 10 shortstops and starting pitchers, while they will do the same on Feb. 8 for relief pitchers and third basemen.
