Mitch Haniger has signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported on the details of Haniger’s contract. The contract has a $6 million signing bonus, opt-out after the 2024 season, and awards Haniger with $1 million if he is traded.

Along with the extremities, Haniger will make $5 million in 2023, $17 million in 2024, and if he decides to stay, $15.5 million in 2025.

Haniger has been one of the better power-hitting corner outfielders in MLB when healthy. In 2021, he clubbed 39 home runs, drove in 100 runs, and had a .804 OPS. In his career, Haniger has recorded a .476 slugging percentage and a 123 OPS+ over his career.

Injuries have been a problem for Haniger in his career. He has only played over 100 games in a season twice, including last year when he missed the majority of the season with a high ankle sprain.

The Giants continue to lead headlines this offseason. They have pursued Aaron Judge all offseason and have reportedly extended him an offer of around $360 million.

While Haniger plays right field, Passan reported that the acquisition of Haniger will not take them out of the Judge sweepstakes. Multiple reporters say the Giants have wanted Haniger and Judge all offseason.

Haniger joins a Giants team that underperformed in 2022. After winning an outstanding 107 games and winning the NL West in 2021, the Giants finished with a 81-81 record. With the Giants presumably losing Carlos Rodón this off-season, they have begun their offseason with a major offensive addition.
