This feature is supposed to be just a single player, but I decided to have two players this week since they have been performing extremely well: Wilmer Flores of Kingsport and Bradley Holt of Brooklyn.
I don’t know how much this will continue, but man Wilmer Flores has been extremely consistent offensively for the Kingsport Mets. If you haven’t heard about this kid already, you should. I say kid, well, because he just turned 17 last week. He’s outperforming his teammates who are 3 or 4 years older than him. I featured him before as the Player of the Week, but he is the hotest offensive player this week, hands down. Over the last 10 games, Wilmer has been hitting .385 with 15 hits in 39 at-bats. Wilmer scored 7 runs with 1 home run, 6 RBI, and 2 doubles. Wilmer has finally accept to take pitches and work walks. He has 4 walks in the past 10 games, more than he had in the month of June, alone. He’s slowly, but surely maturing and is off to an amazing start to his professional career.
Brad Holt has been pitching like he’s a strike out machine out there. His last two starts, Holt is 1-1 with a 1.63 ERA. Holt has struck out 11 in 11 innings, along with walking 5 batters. He had a better start this week than last week, allowing only three hits with one run to score in seven innings. Holt still has to control his pitches as he has a tendency to lose his control and walk batters as displayed in earlier starts. However, if he can control his pitches and pitch well, Holt can quickly move up the system and play for the Mets within the next two or three years.
