On Monday, it was announced that Mets pitching prospect Mike Vasil has been selected to the 2023 All-Star Futures Game.

The Mets’ number eight prospect, according to MLB.com, will be the lone representative from the Mets organization for the July 8 game in Seattle.

Mike Vasil has put up a 4.37 ERA and .99 WHIP over 12 starts between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse this season. The 23-year-old was drafted in the eighth round of the 2021 draft out of Virginia and has been a quick riser in the Mets farm system since making his debut for the St. Lucie Mets in 2022.

Despite struggling in his two starts since moving up to Syracuse, the right-hander showed great promise in Double-A with an impressive WHIP of 0.84 in 51 innings of work. For the year, Vasil has 66 strikeouts compared to only 13 walks in 57 2/3 innings.

While organization pitching depth has been a problem for the Mets, Mike Vasil has been a bright spot as he continues to climb the ranks in just his second year out of college.
