mike piazza

According to a report by Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Mike Piazza will serve as a guest instructor for the Mets during spring training camp at Port St. Lucie.

Joining Piazza as guest instructors will be former Mets closer John Franco and MLB inclusion ambassador Billy Bean.

Piazza, who was elected into the Hall of Fame last month, will also have his Number 31 retired by the Mets during a pregame ceremony on July 30.

He’ll join Tom Seaver (No. 41) and managers Gil Hodges (No. 14) and Casey Stengel (No. 37) as the only uniformed Mets to have their numbers retired.

Piazza’s presence will be great for the fans who flock to Tradition Field to see the team during spring training, but catchers Travis d’Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki will be the biggest benefactors as they try to soak up as much as they can from the Cooperstown-bound backstop.
