Despite earlier reports indicating otherwise, Mickey Callaway has told reporters that Robinson Cano could very well be heading back to the 10-day IL after all.

Callaway said that the team is seriously considering doing so and a decision on that could happen as soon as Sunday, with the plan to evaluate the second baseman prior to the contest against the Colorado Rockies.

Cano, 36, hasn’t played since Wednesday as he re-injured his left quad in his first game back from the IL.

The Mets acquired Cano along with Edwin Diaz in exchange for Jarred KelenicJustin DunnJay Bruce (now with the Philadephia Phillies), Anthony Swarzak (now with the Atlanta Braves, and Gerson Bautista.

So far in 2019, Cano is struggling with a .238/.284/.366 slash line with three home runs and 14 RBI to give himself a -0.4 WAR and 77 OPS+.
