Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer is dealing with a nagging neck ailment and had to sit out Wednesday’s game vs the Padres because of it.

He suffered a stiff neck which started bothering him during Tuesday’s game. It’s not the first time he’s had neck issues. He has experienced those issues throughout his 15 year career, including one instance during Spring Training that forced him to sit out two games.

But according to Cuddyer, this current episode is not as severe as the one he went through during Spring Training and described his condition as minor.

“It just happens,” said Cuddyer. “It’s happened to me for years, even back in the early, early days of Minnesota. I don’t know if it’s certain hotels, certain pillows, certain beds.” (ESPN New York)

Cuddyer was red hot coming into Wednesday’s game, with an eight game hitting streak and a .387 average in that stretch, raising his average to .271. Darrell Cecilliani started at left field in Michael’s absence.

“I was hoping that it would be all right overnight,” said Cuddyer. “I came in and it was just a little stiff. Nothing horrible.”

It’s not known yet if Cuddyer will miss more than one game or if he’ll be in the lineup tonight in Arizona.
