Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets have told Michael Conforto that he would begin the season on the DL.

This news is really not surprising considering he has only played two Grapefruit League games so far. However, there was some speculation that he might make the team as a pinch hitter, as Mike Puma of the New York Post reported they were considering. As a result of this decision, Phillip Evans will make the team.

The decision to place him on the DL is probably the best course of action to take right now, as using him strictly as a pinch hitter does not really help the Mets too much and could just make the rehab process take longer.

By staying in camp for another week or so, he will have the chance to get regular at-bats and get back to the club as quickly as the Mets, and his body, allow him to.

He will also not be in attendance for the Opening Day ceremonies.
