The New York Mets (28-19) defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers (25-24) by a score of 6-5 in thrilling fashion with a walk-off win.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom put together the best performance of his season thus far as he pitched seven strong innings, while allowing just one run. He gave up just three hits on the day while walking three and striking out seven batters, matching his season high.

Jake struggled with his command at times but had nice velocity during the game, consistently hitting 96 MPH on the radar gun. DeGrom received a no-decision, while lowering his ERA to 2.81.

Jerry Blevins and Addison Reed combined for a scoreless eighth. Jeurys Familia entered in the ninth and found himself in trouble quickly in a non-save situation. He loaded the bases with one out, and subsequently walked in a run. Chase Utley, of all people, came up and knocked a three-run triple to tie the game at five. Familia did pick up the victory, his second of the season.

Offense:

The offense got it going early against the Dodgers prized prospect, Julio Urias. The Mets struck for three runs in the first as Neil Walker and Juan Lagares combined for three RBI. Urias only lasted 2.2 innings in his debut as the Mets got to him early in the game.

It wouldn’t be a Mets win without some homers. Both David Wright and Lagares hit solo shots in the fourth and fifth respectively, putting the final icing on the cake in a clean win for the team. Wright’s homer was his seventh of the season, while Lagares’ was his first.

Curtis Granderson. The “Grandy-man” powered a bomb over the right-field wall off of Pedro Baez to seal the deal on the victory for the Mets after things looked grim, following the top of the ninth. It’s been a slow start for Curtis, but boy what a big hit for the catalyst of the Mets offense.

Notes:

Juan Lagares seems to do something special in every start he gets. He had another big night, going 3-for-4 on the night with the homer and three RBI. Lagares continues to show why he is deserving of a starting spot on a team that currently doesn’t have room.

Chase Utley got the pass in the first game of the series, more than likely putting to rest any thought that the Mets will look to retaliate against the Dodgers second-baseman.

On Deck:

The New York Mets will go for the series win Saturday as they send their ace, RHP Noah Syndergaard (5-2, 1.94 ERA) to the mound. He will be opposed by RHP Kenta Maeda (3-3, 3.29 ERA). It’s worth noting that Thor took Maeda deep twice in their last meeting as well.
