The Mets faced the Houston Astros for the final time this spring and won by a final score of 8-3. The Mets bats continue to stay hot.

On the Mound

The Mets have expressed a couple of times this spring that they were intrigued of the idea of using an opener. Today the Mets tried this experiment with Jacob Barnes and Joey Lucchesi.

Barnes held up his end of the bargain throwing one inning and striking out Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman. Barnes is eyeing an opening day roster spot and today certainly helped his case.

Lucchesi did a pretty nice job himself going 4.2 innings, giving up one run on a homer to Bregman in the sixth. He also struck out four and walked one. He was taken out in the sixth when Aaron Loup came on in relief and got his one batter of the day out.

Trevor May came into pitch in the seventh and gave up a home run to Yordan Alverez, making the score 5-2. He struck out two and the only hit he gave up was the home run. Oscar De La Cruz came on in the eighth and gave up an RBI single to Zach Daniels.

Jerry Blevins came on in the ninth to finish the game and did so while giving up two hits and striking out two, giving the Mets the 8-3 victory.

At the Plate

Fransico Lindor continued his hot hitting ways, driving in Lucchesi and Kevin Pillar in the third inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. Lindor made it 3-1 in the fifth inning with another RBI single, scoring Pillar once again.

In the sixth, Dominic Smith hit his third home run of the spring to make the score 4-1 Mets. Later in the same inning, Tomas Nido singled and Luis Guillorme scored to give the Mets a 5-1 lead.

In the seventh, it was back-to-back home runs for Pete Alonso and Smith that made the score 8-2. Mets fans are certainly hoping to see that a lot this season.
