Despite the fact that Mets manager Mickey Callaway is still technically under contract, the Mets have not extended an invite to the skipper to attend their upcoming organizational meetings.
These organizational meetings- held each year around this time- typically involve the current manager, but according to an article by Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the fact that Callaway was not invited this time around is not surprising. Having spent the last six months under a microscope and being questioned left and right for each and every move does not necessarily present great optics, and thus has put his job status up in the air- making it reasonable for the Mets to pass on inviting their manager to these meetings.
Missing out on these meetings- and now having to absorb the message attached to this missing invitation- hasn’t stopped Callaway from preparing for 2020. Callaway himself believes that he is “the right guy” to lead this current Mets team, but it is up to the Mets to ultimately decide if they believe this as well.
Until that decision comes, the Mets manager says that he will remain prepared and keep his players on track, as he understands the “rigors of the job” that must be dealt with on a day-to-day basis.
