The Mets officially activated David Wright from the disabled list Friday in anticipation of him returning to the lineup in the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies. Wright last played in a major league game Aug. 2, when he suffered a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring.

After struggling in his first three starts with the Mets — going 0-3 with a 10.95 ERA — Daisuke Matsuzaka has hit stride in his last two outings. The right-hander, who signed with New York in August, has had better command and has allowed only two runs on five hits and four walks his last two trips to the mound, spanning 12 2/3 innings. His win over the Marlins on Saturday was his first since Aug. 27, 2012.

The Mets also announced that Double-A shortstop Wilfredo Tovar is with the team and will wear No. 70. Tovar, 22, hit .263 (116-441) with 14 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 36 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 133 games with Binghamton this year. Tovar also walked 33 times and struck out 49 times.

Game Preview

The Mets dropped a close one yesterday to close out the homestand against the Giants by the score of 2-1. Tonight they travel down 95 to the sandbox that is Citizen’s Bank Park (which I finally went to this year and it is as small as it looks on television, but the concourse is nice and open). Anyway, Daisuke Matsuzaka will face off against Cole Hamels.

Daisuke Matsuzaka is 1-3 over 5 starts with a 6.12 ERA. In his last two games he has pitched 12.2 innings with 2 ER, so he’s turning it around as of late, hoping to make a strong audition for someone. One of his rough starts this year was against Philly where he allowed 4 ER over 4.1 innings of work, the Phillies have the following numbers against Matsuzaka:

Ruiz 1-6
Utley 2-8, 2B
Rollins 1-5, 2B
Bernadina 0-3
Orr 1-1

The Mets draw the oh so familiar Cole Hamels who is 8-13 over 31 starts this year with a 3.48 ERA. In three starts in September he has pitched 21.0 innings with a 2.57 ERA with 22 strikeouts. He is 2-2 over 5 starts this year against the Mets with a 4.13 ERA allowing 11 ER over 24.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

Murphy 9-30, 2 2B, HR
Tejada 6-24, 2B
Duda 1-13
Young 7-17, 2B
Lagares 5-10, 3 2B
Turner 5-11, 2B

Lets Go Mets!
