Well Mets fan, let’s play two..again!

The New York Mets have announced that after a two and a half hour rain delay, Tuesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers has officially been postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up on Wednesday afternoon as part of a split game doubleheader. Game 1 will start at 2:10 PM, and Game 2 will follow as scheduled at 7:10 PM.

The Mets likely held out as long as they can before calling this one with hopes that Jacob deGrom could make his start tonight, and then return to the mound for the final game before the All-Star break on Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Instead, deGrom will likely take the ball for the Mets in Game 1 on Wednesday afternoon. This sets-up a tremendous pitching matchup as two of the very best in the game go head-to-head in deGrom and Brewers right-hander Corbin Burnes.

It should be noted that this doesn’t necessarily take out the chance of seeing deGrom take the mound on Sunday.

Luis Rojas said pregame on Tuesday that if the game were to be cancelled and deGrom was starting on Wednesday in a seven inning game instead, there’s a possibility they’d at least talk about letting the right-hander work an inning or two out of the bullpen on Sunday.

Robert Stock will likely make his Mets debut in Game 2 tomorrow night. The right-hander made his first career start earlier in the year with the Chicago Cubs against the Mets at Citi Field and allowed five runs and six walks over four innings of work. Left-hander Brett Anderson will be pushed back and take the ball in game 2 for the Brewers.

Mets owner Steve Cohen kept fans up to date all night throughout the rain delay, and his last tweet to fans read, “well, game is cancelled. We tried but the weather wouldn’t cooperate. My sincere apologies.”

This is the Mets’ 10th weather-related postponement, and 13th total postponement in the first half of the season.
