Like Pete Alonso‘s bat with a hanging curve, the Mets hope this new style connects.

The team unveiled new City Connect uniforms today that were inspired by the subway system, diversity and the Queensboro Bridge.

“Our new City Connect uniforms are an homage to everything that makes NYC the greatest city in the world. We wanted to honor different parts of the city that connect to our home in Queens.” said Mets Chief Marketing Officer Andy Goldberg. “From the bridges to the trains to the streets, Mets fans across New York and beyond can wear this streetwear style look with pride.”

The subway, which has brought fans to Mets games for decades, is featured in several ways. A circular sleeve patch represents the old token that was used in the days before MetroCards. Circles (local) and diamonds (express) make up the pinstripes. The purple is for the 7 Line. Hidden under the cap’s bill are colors twisted in a reference to the iconic New York City subway map.

The phrase “The World’s City” is on the uniform, a reminder that Queens is one of the most diverse places on the planet. The Queensboro Bridge travels across the front of the cap.

The Mets will debut the new duds at their April 27 home game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals and wear them at Saturday home games, except for Darryl Strawberry‘s jersey retirement ceremony on June 1.

The Mets also released a video with BMX Legend Nigel Sylvester, Music Producer Large Professor, Artist Futura 2000, New York Jeweler Greg Yuna, Influencer Jaeki Cho and Actor/Writer Anthony Ramos.
