As per Mike Puma of the New York Post, the New York Mets have been receiving “unsatisfactory offers” for their 28-year-old right-hander, Zack Wheeler.
This underwhelming initial round of responses on Wheeler has appeared to tilt the scales in the favor of the Mets keeping the Georgia native.
As per Puma, “There has been a shift in the last few days, in which the Mets believe they are more likely to keep Wheeler than trade him,” which paints a slightly different picture than the one we had been presented with this week.

As per Matt Ehalt of The Record, the New York Mets are “seeking an upper-echelon prospect” in return for starting pitcher Zack Wheeler.
Wheeler, 28, has been resurgent this season, pitching to a 4.33 earned-run average with a 3.67 FIP, 8.58 strikeouts and 3.23 walks per nine innings. Since June 1, Wheeler has a 3.50 ERA.
Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports reports that interested teams have been “making offers to reflect his total body of work”, which is inconsistent at best.
Considering all the adversity he’s had to face throughout his career, it seems fair that the Mets’ front office would try to capitalize on Wheeler’s recent successes and command a higher-valued haul in return, as Heyman also alluded to.
He says that “many, many teams [are] in, but no one yet close with their offer”.
