According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Mets have traded Jason Vargas to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets acquired catcher Austin Bossart in return for Vargas. Bossart, 26, is hitting .195/.303/.335 in Double-A, but has a strong defensive profile to his name.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mets are sending money the Phillies way in the deal. Vargas receives a $250K bonus for being traded.
After posting a 5.77 ERA in his first year with the Mets, Vargas owns a 4.01 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 94.1 innings pitched this season. Vargas also owns a 4.71 FIP and 5.22 xFIP.
