robinson cano

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that the Mets had told the agents for Robinson Cano beforehand that odds on acquiring their client were slim.

Now that’s the most sensible thing I’ve read about this Jay-Z get together since I posted the original report late last night.

Eventually, reality always has a way of catching up to the original story…

Hat tip to Bad Bad Leroy Brown…

Original Post

According to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post, Jeff Wilpon, Sandy Alderson, and John Ricco secretly met with rapper/agent Jay-Z over dinner Monday night in Manhattan to discuss free agent second baseman Robinson Cano.

The hip-hop impresario joined Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, general manager Sandy Alderson and assistant general manager John Ricco for dinner at a posh Manhattan hotel to discuss Cano’s free agency, two sources familiar with the situation told The Post. Cano’s group, which also featured agents Brodie Van Wagenen and Juan Perez, initiated the meeting; Cano himself didn’t attend.

This is so ridiculous it’s hard for me to comment on it. Cano is looking for a 10 year deal worth $300 million and the Mets already confirmed they will not sign any $100 million dollar players.

Jay-Z requested the meeting so don’t go thinking there’s anything here… Mets were just being cordial and agreed to meet or could there be an ulterior here…

Off topic but single game tickets go on sale today… 😀
