The New York Mets’ off-day brought good news and bad news on Monday afternoon.

First, we have the bad news: ace pitcher Jacob deGrom is headed to the 10-day injured list with right side tightness, per SNY‘s Andy Martino.

The Mets will place him on the I.L. Tuesday, retroactive to May 10.

DeGrom, who missed a start last week with the same issue, was able to take the bump on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. While he was perfect through his first four innings, he had a rough go of it in the fifth, where he was showing noticeable discomfort.

Luckily, deGrom escaped a bases-loaded jam, allowing just one run in the frame to hold the lead. However, after throwing two warm-up pitches prior to the sixth, deGrom summoned Mets trainer Brian Chicklo out onto the field. As a result, the right-hander exited the game and was headed for an MRI.

This brings us to our good news: the MRI came back clean, revealing no structural damage, which means the Mets can breathe a sigh of relief, as they dodged a potential massive bullet.

DeGrom now must take the time to rest up, and if he progresses well, the Mets could get him back on May 21 when they start a series against the Miami Marlins. New York plays a total of eight games from now until deGrom is eligible to return. So, he should only miss one start, as long as all goes according to plan.
