yoenis-cespedes

The re-signing of Yoenis Cespedes is official. Rejoice.

There will be a press conference today at 5 PM ET at Citi Field to re-introduce him.

Original Report – Nov 29

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Mets have reached an agreement with free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. The deal is for four years and $110 million dollars, a little lower than my $115 million prediction.

Rosenthal adds that this is the largest free agent deal in team history and the $27.5 million average annual value would match A-Rod for seventh-highest in MLB history and is the highest for an outfielder on a multi-year deal.

Readers of this site shouldn’t be too surprised as I’ve been writing that Cespedes would sign with the Mets before the Winter Meetings for two weeks and that it would be a four year deal.

I was told a couple of weeks ago by two sources that the Mets and Cespedes were getting very close to finalizing a deal and all that other stuff about the Nationals, Dodgers, Yankees and Giants was all “background noise.”

Cespedes has made it well known that his true desire was to stay with the Mets and just yesterday I said it would take a big overpay to pry him away from the Mets at this point..

So here are the numbers… The deal breaks down as $22.5M, $29M, $29M and $29.5M over the next four years and Cespedes gets a full no trade clause.

Welcome back, Yo….
