The Mets capped off what started out as a very tenuous homestand with a great win on Sunday night before a national audience that saw them take 3 out of 4 games from the Los Angeles Dodgers after a convincing 6-1 victory.

Johan Santana started for the Mets and performed every bit like the ace the Mets had hoped for tonight with a solid effort that saw him pitch all the way into the eight inning. He gave up one first inning run and then that was it for the Dodgers the rest of the night. Santana scattered six hits while striking out six batters and he improved his record to 7-3 in the process. For Santana it was the 100th victory of his career!

The Mets did most of their damage in the third inning when they exploded for 5 runs that featured a couple of two-run homers from Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church. Beltran has been sizzling of late and it couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. Church, who had just returned after almost a two week layoff came out firing on all pistons as he blasted three hits on the night.

David Wright also had three hits and two RBI’s , while Jose Reyes chipped in a couple of hits and scored  a couple of runs. Reyes and Wright also stole a base each on the night.

The win caps off a successful 5-2 homestand that completely extinguished all of the bad feelings that accumulated during the last road-trip.

The Mets are cooking baby!

Give a Game Ball to our ace Johan Santana!
