According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers have shown interest in trading for Cleveland Indians’ catcher Yan Gomes.

Gomes, 31, hit .266/.313/.449 with 16 home runs and 48 RBI to give him a 101 wRC+ last season. He is also considered one of the better defensive catchers in the game and ranked 15th in framing runs last season with 7.5 as well as 14th in field runs above average with a 9.1 clip.

Gomes will make $7 million in 2019, but also has two club options as part of his contract for the 2020 and 2021 in which he would make $9 and $11 million respectively.

The Mets have also shown interest in free agent catchers Wilson Ramos, Yasmani Grandal and Martin Maldonado.

First, the Mets must make a decision on catcher Travis d’Arnaud before Friday’s 8 p.m. ET non-tender deadline. D’Arnaud is projected to make $3.7 million through arbitration for the 2019 season. Non-tendering d’Arnaud would leave Kevin Plawecki and Tomas Nido as the only two catchers on the Mets 40-man roster.
