Before they take the mound at Citi Field, Mets starters have a variety of selections to make.

Not only what pitch they throw, or where they throw their pitches. But even the uniform they wear.

According to Ronald Blum of the Associated Press, manager Terry Collins lets the starters choose what uniform style that the Mets will wear each game.

The Mets have different uniforms they wear in games. Here is the record. They are 37-24 in their traditional white home uniforms with pinstripes during the regular season, 9-8 in the alternate blue jerseys, and 3-0 in the camouflage outfits worn on Military Mondays.

On the road, they were 26-22 in their gray threads, and 15-17 in their blues.

Baseball could be filled with superstitions and what uniform they wear, could be a factor probably in performance.

“I try not to pay too much attention to superstition, said Noah Syndergaard who will start Game 3 of the World Series at Citi Field. “I just show up at the field every day, and the jersey is hanging in my locker, and that’s the one I wear. Superstitions are just simple distractions that distract you from the task at hand.”

In the postseason, the Mets are 3-0 when wearing blue at home and 0-1 in white. They are planning to wear their white uniform in Game 3.

UniformsMets equipment Manager Kevin Kierst puts out white for home games most of the time, except on Fridays, unless the pitchers tell him otherwise. For road games, he always asks the starters. Pitchers have until an hour before first pitch to change their minds.

Each opposing team must be consulted to make sure both teams don’t wear similar colors which would create some confusion. Both the Mets and the Royals are blue so MLB would not prefer both of them to wear those colors in the same game.

Although the Royals are planning to wear gray for all their road Series games.

Some of the Mets starters have preferences. Matt Harvey prefers the blue and the Mets wore blue in 21 of his 29 starts. Jacob deGrom does not like the blue and he wore that only once in his 30 starts. Bartolo Colon likes the white and gray ones and he wore those in 28 of his 31 starts.

One example of such superstitious was when the Mets won their home opener in white, they stayed with that color for their homestand and they won 10 straight games.

But don’t expect players to stick with the same color even if they’re on a roll. MLB began an authentication program in 2001.

“Tonight we’ll have a different uniform,” said Terry Collins. “When the game is over, they will take, stamp it and we’ll wear a different uniform tomorrow. So it’s pretty hard to be superstitious. There were times you didn’t wash your stuff. Now it’s on EBay the next day.”
