According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports,  the New York Mets have reached out to the Atlanta Braves about acquiring third baseman Juan Uribe.

Heyman says the Braves want a mid-level prospect as long as any acquiring team is willing absorb the remaining $3 million dollars of Uribe’s salary.

However, if a team were willing to up the ante with a top level prospect, they would consider absorbing some or most of the salary.

Uribe, 36, is hitting .268 with a .325 on-base this season in 73 games with the Braves and  Dodgers. He has seven doubles, eight home runs and 22 RBI in 249 plate appearances with a .728 OPS.

Defensively, Uribe has played all but one game at third base. He’s played some shortstop and second base in his career.

Uribe has been slumping of late and is .160 in his last 30 at-bats. But has raked against left-handed pitching with a .937 OPS in 50 at-bats.

Heyman concludes while Mets are interested, they prefer other options for now.
