The New York Mets (22-16) defeated the Washington Nationals (23-16) by a score of 2-0. The Metropolitans drew first blood in the 18 game long season series between the two National League power houses.

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard brought the thunder in Tuesday night’s win. Syndergaard pitched to seven scoreless innings, while only giving up five hits. He struck out 10 Nationals in route to his fourth win of the season. Thor lowered his ERA to 2.19 in an absolutely dominating performance.

Addison Reed came on to pitch a perfect eighth inning, while striking out two. Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect ninth, while striking out one and picking up his 13th save of the season.

Offense:

Curtis Granderson got the game going with a bang for the Mets offense with a first pitch, leadoff homer off star pitcher, Max Scherzer. The homer was Granderson’s seventh of the season. He had a great night at the plate overall, going 2-for-2 with two walks. Getting Granderson going would be absolutely huge for this offense, as he has been the catalyst for this team.

Scherzer only gave up three hits on the night, unfortunately for him, two of those hits left the park. Michael Conforto put a sweet swing on the ball, rocketing one out over the right field wall for his sixth homer of the season.

Notes:

Daniel Murphy received a nice standing ovation from the Citi faithful as he stepped to the plate in the top of the second inning. Murphy also flashed some leather in the field, making a couple of fine plays that saved the Nationals from further trouble.

On Deck:

The Mets go for the series win tomorrow as RHP Bartolo Colon (3-2, 3.53 ERA) is opposed by Nationals LHP Gio Gonzalez (2-1, 1.93 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
